From fresh products like fruits and vegetables to household appliances, clothing, handicrafts, fashion accessories, etc.

Saturday Night Market (Wualai Walking Street) https://www.chiangmaiboutiquehotel.com/shopping-places-in-chiang-mai/saturday-night-market-wualai-walking-street/ Thu, 01 Jul 2021 02:28:26 +0000 https://www.chiangmaiboutiquehotel.com/?p=5235 Chiang Mai Saturday Night Market (also known as the Wualai Walking Street) is located at Wualai Road, which is the south-west side of the old city opposite Chiang Mai Gate (the south gate). The lively and fun night market takes place every Saturday evening from 4.00pm to 10.30pm.

The Saturday Night Market is basically a mini size Sunday Night Market some vendors do both markets with a smaller crowd and are less touristic. Best known for its high quality authentic northern silver and lacquer ware, unique handicrafts, local food, and traditional performances.

Same as other walking streets, there will be street entertainers and musicians playing music, singing, dancing or whatever. The Silver Temple near the night market lit up at night.

The Saturday night walking street is growing in popularity, and towards sunset tends to be the busiest time. It’s still easy enough to walk along one side and then back along another, checking out all the different stalls. There is a real variety in the types of stalls at Wualai Market, and it includes not only hill tribe souvenirs and “I love Thailand’ t-shirts, but also some more interesting stands selling clothing and accessories from local designers, original paintings and even an orchid or two, if you think they will survive the journey home! Wualai Road was once more famous for its silverware and lacquer workshops, and there are still a handful of shops open in the evenings. To wander around the market would take around an hour or two, depending on how many stops you take to eat.

Many people come here for the food as much as the shopping. There are local restaurants serving hot Thai food: barbequed fish, som tam, fried rice and pad Thai. There are also plenty of stands selling snacks to eat as you walk, including traditional Thai sweets made from coconut, freshly blended smoothies and satay with fiery peanut dipping sauce. After having some food and a wander you can rest at one of the street side massage booths – there’s no better way to end an evening.

Nana Jungle Market https://www.chiangmaiboutiquehotel.com/shopping-places-in-chiang-mai/nana-jungle-market/ Thu, 01 Jul 2021 02:18:42 +0000 https://www.chiangmaiboutiquehotel.com/?p=5218 The Nana Jungle Market is a beautiful, secluded pastry market unknown to many, hidden within a forest at Suan Phailom village, Canal Road, Chiang Mai. The place is quite out of the way and only opens on Saturday 7.30am-10.30am.

This is a melting pot where Thais and expats come for the fresh-from-the-oven baguettes, croissants, brioches, tarts and a myriad of other baked items. There’re also vendors selling organic products like milk and jam.

You have to be there early to take a queue number to buy the bread and they go off the shelf very fast. They give you a number at the entrance to wait in line if you want to purchase something from the bakery as it’s super popular! Some locals arrive as early as 6.30am for a queue number.

Nana Jungle Market is one of the best places to buy bread and baked goods in Chiang Mai. Every Saturday morning, tucked away in the trees at the end of Rural Road, there is a proverbial gold rush. Over 100 people, mostly Asian tourists, get up with the sun, take a ride to the edge of town, and queue up in a parking lot for a wooden gate to open. The reason, amazing bread. The reason people are going to all this trouble is because this pop up has things the other bakeries don’t stock; not to mention all the things they do. It is both early and far, but the good stuff is worth it.

There are other interesting stalls in the market area selling fruit juices, coffee, crafts, clothing, and even bicycle-operated-smoothies.

The rest of the market is made up of stalls selling a large variety of homemade artisan products like kimchi, dairy products, yogurt, fresh fruits and vegetables, honey, etc. You may help yourself to an excellent, fresh coffee or milk and find yourself a seat on one of the benches by the lake. In addition to food, there are a few stalls selling handmade art and crafts items, and even clothing and jewelry.
